Overview
The standard solution for peptide reconstitution
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. The preservative stops bacteria from growing, so the vial can be punctured many times without contaminating what is left. That is why it is the standard solution for reconstituting lyophilised (freeze-dried) peptides in research.
Each 10 ml vial gives multiple draws. Once the stopper has been pierced, the benzyl alcohol keeps the contents sterile for up to 28 days when the vial is refrigerated.

Frequently asked questions
Why bacteriostatic water rather than plain sterile water?
Plain sterile water has no preservative, so it is meant for a single use: once the vial is opened it can grow bacteria. The 0.9% benzyl alcohol in bacteriostatic water keeps a vial usable across repeated draws for up to 28 days.
Does it work with every peptide?
It suits the great majority of research peptides. A few compounds are better reconstituted in a different solution; check the literature for the compound you are working with.
How should it be stored?
Unopened, keep it at room temperature (20–25 °C), sealed in its original packaging. After the first puncture, keep it refrigerated at 2–8 °C and use it within 28 days.
